Have you heard of the Rose festival in Bulgaria? In this video I share with you how the Bulgarian gold, the rose oil, is produced. Each year in the beginning of June you can experience the festival in Bulgaria. Every year, during the first weekend of June, local community in Kazanlak organizes the annual festival of the roses. This year it will take place on 4 and 5 June 2016 in Kazanlak. The first festival took place 108 years ago, in 1903. Celebrations were held annually, at the beginning of the rose-harvesting period.

The rose blossoms for about 25 days a year during this period. The picking of the flowers happen early in the morning. The reason for this is because in the morning the aroma of the flower is at its strongest. Also, another reason is because in the morning the soil is oily, which makes the flower better for usage.

Now I’ll tell you some interesting facts that would be nice to know. One of the world’s best rose oil today comes from Bulgaria. Not only that, but one of the highest per cent of the world’s rose oil is obtained in the Rose Valley. It takes 3,5 tons of rose petals for the making of one kilo of rose oil, which has the price of gold. International buyers pay around 4,000 Euro a kilo for the Bulgarian product. The Bulgarian rose oil is then used in the perfumery business throughout the world. It is one of the main ingredients of famous perfumes. Even the space industry has a need for the Bulgarian rose oil. It is used as a greasing component in space equipment, due to its resistance to any temperature changes.
